Recap: 2023 Nevada State Shoot – Las Vegas, Nevada

The 75th Annual Nevada State Shoot was held October 20–29, 2023, at the Clark County Shooting Complex in Las Vegas. With shooters from 35 states, more than 2,000 entries, and prizes that included 75 pounds of pure silver, the milestone event blended high-level competition with the hospitality and fun that the NSTA is known for.

Off the Line: Fun & Hospitality

  • Every night from Tuesday to Saturday, the NSTA hosted free dinners for shooters and guests.

  • Side games like poker tournaments, silver shootouts, and novelty events added to the atmosphere.

  • Trophies stretched the length of the clubhouse tables, and silver coins, bars, and even shotgun shell replicas were awarded.

Championship Highlights

  • Singles Championship (Saturday): Junior shooter Grant Smith broke 191 to claim the Nevada State crown. Non-resident Rick Marshall led the field with 198.

  • Doubles Championship (Friday): Mark Dagher (NV) took the title with 94, while his son Mitchell (Sub Junior) won with 83—using Dan Orlich’s legendary MX8.

  • Handicap Championship (Sunday): New shooter Leila Tabion (Las Vegas) earned her first state title with an 82, edging Junior champ Orion Cooper by one bird.

  • Class Championships: Rick Marshall posted the only 200 straight in Singles Class. He also ran the lone 100 in the Doubles Class Championship.

  • Special Events: The North/South Shootout ended with bragging rights going south, as Lucci Kern, Tina Shigemura, Ken James, Grant Smith, and Jack Wang formed the winning squad.

High Awards

  • High All Around (HAA): Orion Cooper – 353×400 (Resident Champion). Rick Marshall claimed the non-resident title with 382.

  • High Over All (HOA): Richard Bullard – 982×1100 (Resident Champion). Rick Marshall led all non-residents with 1055.
