Recap: 2024 Kansas State Shoot – Salina, Kansas

The 134th Kansas State Shoot was held at the Kansas Trapshooting Association Homegrounds in Salina, Kansas. With 10 well-groomed trap banks, plenty of camping, and wide-open Flint Hills views, shooters enjoyed a mix of great weather, strong scores, and memorable moments throughout the week.

Early Week Highlights

  • Hunter Prockish Singles (Tuesday): 159 shooters opened the program, with Junior Audrey Jones posting her first 100 straight in Handicap from the 19-yard line. Non-residents Justin Debrie and Shelly Heitner shot 99s from the 27.

  • Eddie Johnson Doubles (Tuesday): Two perfect 100s were shot, including by rising 12-year-old Sub Junior Evan Peterson, who impressed with his composure and skill.

  • Hall of Fame Handicap (Wednesday): Dakota Clark (KS) claimed Resident Champion with a 98, while non-residents Sandra Jo Jack, Rylon Arnold, Jon Marsh, and Ron Bliss all ran 200s in the Singles that followed.

Midweek Action

  • Class Doubles (Friday): South winds made targets tough, but three shooters managed to top the field.

  • Preliminary Handicap: Eddie Johnson delivered the only 100 from the 27-yard line, besting a field of 322.

Championship Weekend

  • Kansas State Singles Championship (Saturday): Tyson Adams (KS) ran the lone 200 to earn his second Singles State Championship (first since 2009). He also anchored a perfect 500 squad alongside Dave Wommack, Ron Bliss, Pat Stacey, and Kya Funkhouser. Out-of-state shooter Justin Ballantyne (MO) won the non-resident crown after a marathon five-round shootoff.

  • Doubles Championship (Sunday): Resident David Osborn (KS) posted a 98 to claim the title, adding another milestone to his long ATA career.

  • Handicap Championship (Sunday): Jennifer McBee (KS) captured her first major crown with a 96 from the 20.5-yard line, earning the Resident Champion trophy.

High Awards

  • High All Around (HAA): Cody Eye (KS) – 388×400.

  • High Over All (HOA): Eddie Johnson (KS) – 969×1000; Cole Henning (IA) won non-resident with 976.
