Recap: 2023 Trapshooting Hall of Fame Inductees – Pat Lamont & Rod Boll
The 55th Annual Trapshooting Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony honored four icons of the sport, including Patrick Lamont of Manitoba and Rod Boll of Saskatchewan (posthumously). Their stories reflect both international achievement and deep personal connections to trapshooting.
Patrick Lamont
-
Career Highlights: A six-time ATA All-American, Lamont has earned Grand American titles across all five major events, making him only the second shooter (after Kay Ohye) to collect a championship ring for each. His victories include multiple High All Around and High Over All crowns, Clay Target titles in 2016 and 2022, and the 2017 Doubles Championship.
-
Canadian Dominance: Lamont has amassed 38 Canadian National Championships, more than any other shooter, with multiple wins in Singles, Handicap, Doubles, HOA, and HAA events.
-
Family Legacy: His most memorable win came in 2005 at Vandalia, where he and his father Rob claimed the Parent/Child trophy with a perfect 400/400. Rob, who first introduced Pat to trap at age 10, presented him at the Hall of Fame ceremony.
-
Beyond the Line: Lamont works as a chemical engineer at Chemtrade, producing sodium chlorate—used in every primer in the U.S. He’s known for his humility, drive, and a simple piece of advice to young shooters: “Have fun! See the target, set your gun right, and keep it there.”
Rod Boll
-
Early Roots: Boll’s grandmother first drove him to clubs and paid his entry fees, proudly watching him break his first 100 straight. His wife Terry later stood beside him as he competed for Canada worldwide.
-
International Success: Boll represented Canada at multiple World Cups and the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, earning medals in Cuba (1994) and Peru (1995). He was a member of Canada’s National Team for more than a decade and won the Champion of Champions team title at the Grand American in 1992.
-
ATA Achievements: He claimed trophies at Grand Americans, Satellite Grands, and Zone shoots well into his Veteran years. Notably, he earned numerous Sub-Vet championships between 2014–2017 and continued to win Veteran titles in 2018.
-
Legacy: Boll ran his own gun club, coached clinics, and passed his love of the sport to his sons Kahl and Schon—who later flipped the script, with Rod proudly known as “Kahl and Schon’s dad.” He was also deeply community-minded, serving the Fillmore Legion. Rod passed away in 2021 but left behind a powerful legacy as one of Canada’s greatest trapshooters.
Final Take
From Lamont’s unmatched Canadian titles to Boll’s international medals and Olympic journey, both inductees reflect the best of trapshooting—discipline, humility, and passion for passing the sport on to future generations. Their induction into the Trapshooting Hall of Fame ensures their names will inspire generations to come.
